Troye Sivan is a 22 year old queer artist who is open with his sexuality through his use of male pronouns in his songs. In the music video for his song “Bloom,” he explicitly expresses himself with makeup and a floral skirt. The song explores sexuality and new love.
His Bloom album shows how confident he is with his sexuality, and like Bowie, he shows others that they can be comfortable with themselves too.
Troye also has a set of three music videos that follow the story of a young gay couple and the struggles that they go through, involving an abusive and homophobic father. These videos show important messages that both heterosexual and LGBTQ people should see.
Before Sivan pursued music, he had a YouTube channel in which he created covers and he also created a video in which he came out to the Internet, which is important to the community, especially with the world’s current involvement with social media and technology.
Troye’s music provides a new and refreshing look on sexuality and how it is okay and beautiful to love who you love.
